How it works
The finder looks up how your word is pronounced in the same dictionary the Lyric Studio app uses, then compares its sounds with every other word that ends on the same vowel.
- Perfect rhymes share every sound from the stressed vowel to the end: night, light, fight.
- Multisyllabic rhymes match the vowels over two or three syllables, the backbone of rap and R&B flows: money, company, lucky.
- Slant rhymes keep the vowel and change the consonants, or the other way round: time, mind, life. They sound natural when sung and keep a hook from feeling forced.
Everyday words come first. The number next to each rhyme is its syllable count, so you can pick one that fits the beat. For the theory behind it, read what a rhyme scheme is and how multisyllabic rhymes work.
Questions
What is the difference between perfect, multisyllabic and slant rhymes?
A perfect rhyme matches every sound from the stressed vowel to the end (night / light). A multisyllabic rhyme matches the vowel sounds over two or more syllables (money / company). A slant rhyme shares the vowel or the consonants but not both (time / mind).
How many words does the rhyme finder know?
It searches about 50,000 everyday English words taken from the pronouncing dictionary inside the Lyric Studio app, with names and abbreviations left out. The app itself searches its full 130K+ word dictionary.
Can I find rhymes for a phrase?
Yes. Type two or three words, like "bright lights", and the finder rhymes on the sound of the whole phrase, which is how multisyllabic rhymes are built.
Is the rhyme finder free?
Yes, free and with no sign-up. Results are worked out in your browser and nothing you type is sent to a server.
