Lyric Studio vs RhymeZone: which one should songwriters use?
Pick RhymeZone if you want a fast word lookup in any browser, on any device, with synonyms, definitions and related words next to the rhymes. Pick Lyric Studio if you write lyrics on an iPhone or iPad and want rhymes, syllable counts, beats and a recorder in the same place as your song. Plenty of writers use both: RhymeZone for broad word research, a songwriting app for the actual draft.
We make Lyric Studio, so read this with that in mind. Every statement about RhymeZone below comes from RhymeZone’s own website, and where its site doesn’t say something, we’ve written “Not stated” rather than guess.

Where RhymeZone is the better choice
Breadth of word research. RhymeZone is much more than a rhyme list. Its search menu covers rhymes, near rhymes, synonyms, descriptive words, phrases, antonyms, definitions, related words, similar sounding words, homophones, consonant matching, letter matching and anagrams. If you’re hunting for the right image or a word with a certain feel, not only a rhyme, that range is hard to beat.
It works everywhere. It’s a website, so it runs on a laptop, a Chromebook, an Android phone or a library computer. You can search without signing up. Lyric Studio is an iPhone and iPad app, so if you write on Windows or Android, RhymeZone is the more practical option.
A long track record and big results. RhymeZone says it has run continuously since 1996. A search for a common word returns thousands of matches, organized by syllable count, and you can choose to include phrases. Its advanced search, which it describes as built for songwriters, lets you sort and filter results by rhyme quality, popularity and meter.
Phrase rhymes for multi-syllable words. RhymeZone’s phrase rhymes tab suggests multi-word phrases that share vowel sounds with your word. The site is upfront that this tab is a work in progress and can return odd results, but it’s a useful idea generator for slant rhymes that run across line breaks.
Where Lyric Studio is the better choice
Rhymes inside your lyrics, not in another tab. In Lyric Studio you long-press a word in your song to see perfect, multisyllabic and slant rhymes with syllable counts, drawn from a dictionary of 130K+ words. You stay in the draft instead of switching between a notes app and a browser.
Your whole song is analysed as you write. Every line shows its syllable count and a rhyme letter at the end, and rhyming words are underlined, so you can see your rhyme scheme and flow at a glance. Lyric Coach notes point out clichés, repeated words and uneven lines.
Music and recording in the same app. There’s a library of 100+ beats, an AI beat generator, and a recorder for laying down vocals over the beat. That covers the step after the words: hearing whether the line actually fits.
Optional AI help. AI autocomplete suggests a next line in your style, AI rewrite can keep the same syllables, rhyme with the line above, cut clichés or add imagery, and the AI lyric generator drafts from a topic, mood and genre. You can ignore all of it and write by hand.
Writing with other people. You can invite co-writers by Messages, Mail or link, give edit or view-only access, and see who is writing while live changes are merged line by line. Songs are backed up in your own iCloud and sync between iPhone and iPad (iOS 17+), with no account to create.
More than English. Lyric Studio analyses lyrics in English, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, French and German, although the app’s interface is in English.
You can see the full list on the features page, and common questions are answered in the FAQ.
Not on iPhone? Try the web tools
If you like RhymeZone’s browser-based approach, the Lyric Studio site has free web tools too: a rhyme finder, a syllable counter, a rhyme scheme checker and a lyric checker. They’re narrower than RhymeZone’s search menu, but handy for checking a verse you’ve already written.
